Skovby was founded in 1933 by cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen. His vision was to create a foundation for sustainable and functional furniture design, which his son Villy Rasmussen and grandsons Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen have carried on ever since. Their early projects took place in a small one-man workshop and in less than 20 years Skovby furniture is now a global production facility. This development led to the build-up of an international dealership network. A healthy organic growth with a continuing focus on craftsmanship, natural materials and a sustainable business model that commits to employees and environment.

A common passion

The driving force, and a shared passion spanning the three generations of cabinetmakers, is function. Skovby was among the frontrunners within functional extension systems for tables, and today the furniture company is world renowned for their talent to combine design and functionality. The continuous and direct reason for Skovby’s success is the ability to develop designs, which unite strong aesthetic expression with innovative function. Today, Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen run a unique high-technology business that also has a positive environmental imprint.

Environmental

Skovby furniture is made from natural materials, selected with consideration and respect for nature, environment and people.

Wood is one of the most sustainable and lasting resources that exists. Wood that we obtain from such forests is replaced, which supports preservation of ecosystem diversity. Our excess wood is used as fuel. All wood chips and shavings are utilized for heating our premises and contribute to a positive carbon-dioxide accounting and make up a valuable resource in our pursuit of a carbon neutral production 

As a member of the Danish Furnituremakers' Quality Control Board Skovby is part of an exclusive network of 17 Danish furniture companies, which invest time and resources to push the agenda on sustainable operations, to be equipped to handle the highest standards and requirements for durability and to secure skilled labor for the future.
